FMLA Fishing Derby Success!
Although rain threatened at the beginning, sunny skies prevailed at the Four Mile Lake Children's Fishing Derby held on Sunday July 2nd. There were a few drivers and participants with sleepy eyes, after all the Canada 150 Birthday Celebrations the day before, but all our young participants had fun. Our anglers spent approximately 2 hours trying to catch The Big One and enjoying time out on the lake with family. No better way to spend a Canada Day long weekend! As with past years, we had many types of fishing vessels including fishing boats, tin boats, pontoon boats, ski boats, and even a canoe! All boats gathered at the south end near the mouth of the bay, to pick up their prizes from the prize canoe and lunch of burgers, hot dogs, potato chips, and water. One lucky participant got a surprise when she opened up her hot dog to find a gift certificate from Walstens. Congratulations Storbeck-Pulling family! We couldn't have executed this event if it were not for our generous sponsors and dedicated volunteers. Sponsors Foodland in Coboconk donated all the burgers, hot dogs, buns, chips, and water. Walsten Marine provide a gift certificate for one lucky winner. Coboconk Buck & Up Closeouts provide discounts on the prizes. Monitory donation to support this event came from Grace Cork, Shepherd Environmental, Kawartha Waterfront Real Estate, Handley Plumbing, Handley Lumber, Irene McCool, RWH and Houston Marine. Thank You Sponsors! Volunteers Mike Vidas and Simon Martin have planned, organized and executed this event since it's inception. Whether is contacting our sponsors, or flipping burgers these two are always there to ensure the Derby goes off without a hitch. Thank you Mike and Simon for all you do! This year's cooks and packagers were Mike and Vanessa Vidas, Ardys and David Currie , Cara Letton, Sophie and Wyatt Currie, Julia and Alison Vidas. The meal organizers on the water were Simon Martin, Eric and Ryan Leslie, Sophie and Wyatt Currie, Julia and Alison Vidas. Thanks to Rob Spitz for loaning us the pontoon boat to use as the base station. The Lee Family for getting the boats in the lake in the rain, and loading the water on to our base station first thing in the morning. Thank you Volunteers! If you have photos you would like to share on the Four Mile Lake web site, we would love to see them. Please forward any photos to mvidas@hitachisolutions.com. Cara Letton
