Greetings from our New Board and President

Our new Board met on July 9, 2017 to elect officers to the FMLA as well as to discuss key areas of focus. A list of these new Officers and Directors, with their contact information, is now available on our website. I am really excited about our new Board, we not only have the expertise of previous members, but also an energetic group of new people with diverse backgrounds who are keen to support our organization and its members. I am also personally excited to have been given the opportunity to lead the FMLA. As a FML family now with our 6th generation this is a very special place for me, and I am very focused on ensuring future generations can also enjoy what we as members enjoy today.

Your Board is already working hard to move forward a number of initiatives. Working Groups are underway in the following areas;

David Bates - Strategic Planning/Lake Management Plan • Development of the Associations position with respect to Kawartha Conservation entering our jurisdiction (priority) • Development of a formal FMLA made at home Lake Management Plan • Execution Plan, including activities, marketing and communication of Lake Management Plan • Handbook for residents considering shoreline work

Greg Worona - Membership/Advertising • Membership, including renewals, mailing lists, recruitment • Marketing the Association • Advertising and communications including eBlasts, newsletters, website management, and mailers

Ann Castaldo - Operations/Stewardship • Gate management, city liaison for operational matters, swimming etc. • Lake social activities (ex: fishing derby) • Outreach to community groups, other associations on operational matters • Lake stewardship (Saul will continue to support this area)

We are looking for members who are interested in supporting our working groups, you don’t have to be on the Board to participate. If any of these areas are of interest to you please reach out to any of our Directors, or myself, as we would very much enjoy your participation. We are also looking for people to help us with Desktop Publishing, as well as legal expertise when we get to our bylaw review… if you have one of these skills and are willing to help please let us know.

Ann Hayter is busy organizing the transition of the Treasurers role including financial statements, banking, signing authorities and the like. Ann will also manage the secretary role including records and the fiduciary responsibilities for filings and the like as an Incorporation. Our mailing address for the FMLA is now changed to “Four Mile Lake Association General Delivery Burnt River, Ontario K0M1C0”

As part of our overall plan for this term we will be reviewing bylaws and our mission. Later this month I look forward to meeting Andy (our Mayor), and Gord(our local Councilor). In the coming weeks I will also be reaching out to the Chamber, neighbouring Associations, Kawartha Conservation, MNR, and FOCA to assess areas of mutual interest.

As we move forward we will keep you posted as to our activities. I want to extend a special thank you to Rob Sylvester who has given so much of his time and energy into running the FMLA for many years. We are all grateful for his support and look forward to his continued involvement in the Association as Past President. On behalf of the entire Board we want to thank you, our members, for your support and confidence in us.

Ron Osborne President Four Mile Lake Association
